Farrokh Bulsara was born on September 5th on 1946 in Zanzibar. At the age of 5 he enrolled into Zanzibar Missionary School and stayed there for 4 years until he was 9. Then he was shipped to St. Peter’s School all boys boarding school in 1955, which was over 2,000 miles away from his home and parents. While going this school which is located in Panchgani, India he lived at his maternal aunt’s, Sheroo, house. Here he created his first band the Hectics, the name of the band was thought to be inspired by Freddie’s crazy actions during performances. Farrokh also changed his first name to Freddie. In the end though, he failed school and left in 1963. He then returns to Zanzibar and completes his education at St. Joseph’s Convent School in that same year.
That next year the Zanzibar Revolution begun, so he and his family fled to the UK. The Zanzibar Revolution was a time which led to the overthrow of the Sultan of Zanzibar and his mainly Arab government. In the UK, Freddie starts studying A Level art at Isleworth Polytechnic School from 1964-1966. In 1966, he starts taking courses in graphic designs at Ealing College of Art. There he meets Tim Staffell, Roger Taylor and Brian May who are in the same band, Smile. After 3 years he graduates with a diploma. Soon after he meets Mary Austin, she was his first girlfriend. But he loved her more like a mother. Next year the lead singer of Smile, Tim Staffell, left the band. This gives Freddie Bulsara to join as the lead singer. That same year during April Freddie and Smile both change their names, Freddie Bulsara to Freddie Mercury and Smile to Queen.
